Typography-focused preflight layer for Adobe InDesign

One last typography check before export.

Avellio runs inside Adobe InDesign and catches hidden style overrides, typography mistakes and layout cleanup issues before the final PDF leaves the studio.

Engine workflow

  1. 01

    Open a real InDesign file

Use a catalogue, report, book spread or magazine layout, not a synthetic blank file.

  2. 02

    Run Styles or Typography

Choose a focused profile, scope and locale, then build current evidence.

  3. 03

    Review highlighted findings

Navigate exact occurrences and decide what should be fixed, skipped or handled manually.

  4. 04

    Re-audit and export

Verify the result and export a QA report for production handoff.

The gap between preflight and proofreading

Find. Decide. Verify.

Avellio gives typography its own production pass without pretending that design judgement can be fully automated.

01 / FIND

Find what standard preflight does not.

Surface hidden overrides, typography mistakes, poor breaks, rogue fonts, spacing problems and locale-specific inconsistencies.

02 / DECIDE

Review evidence before anything changes.

Avellio points to exact occurrences and explains why they were flagged. You decide which findings are errors and which are intentional.

03 / VERIFY

Repeat the audit and document the handoff.

Reuse profiles, rebuild current evidence after edits and export reports for studios, editors, publishers and prepress teams.

What Avellio checks

From character detail to layout debt.

The interface groups related checks into five evidence families. Underneath, the reporting engine can emit 43 distinct identifiers for filtering and downstream QA.

01

Microtypography

Widows and orphans, double spaces, repeated words, quotes, ellipses, punctuation spacing and hyphenation details.

02

Mezotypography

Rag quality, tracking drift, paragraph spacing, alignment consistency and vertical-rhythm evidence.

03

Macrotypography

Rogue fonts, style drift, hierarchy evidence, measure, columns and broader structural consistency.

04

Semantic consistency

Dates, numbers, currencies, abbreviations, units, spacing and locale-specific conventions.

05

Break and cleanup audit

Soft returns, empty paragraphs, manual indents, trailing spaces, consecutive tabs and other layout debt.

Review-first action layer

Audit first. Fix second. Verify again.

Safety belongs to the exact occurrence, not merely to the issue name. Text, locale, styles, locks, overset risk, ambiguity and document freshness can change the route.

AuditReviewFixRe-auditExport
01

Safe Auto-Fix

Only when the range is exact, the intended change is low-ambiguity and every guard passes.

02

Review Required

Before/after context and navigation keep the designer or editor in control.

03

Manual Only

Composition, hierarchy or editorial intent requires a human decision inside InDesign.

04

Blocked / Never Fix

Locked, stale, ambiguous, risky or unsupported candidates remain unchanged.

Local, multilingual, explainable

Useful evidence without uploading the document.

Avellio complements InDesign Preflight and human proofreading with a dedicated typography and style layer.

Document and locale context

Typography changes when the language changes.

Use AUTO when document metadata is strong or choose an explicit regional convention when punctuation, dates, numbers, currencies, quotes or spacing must follow a fixed rule.

Production evidence

End with a report, not a vague “looks fine.”

Export current results for review, production handoff or a repeatable studio workflow.

  • Override Reportstyle-system evidence
  • Fix Reportcorrections and routes
  • CSV exportfiltering and downstream QA
A complementary layer

Not a replacement for preflight or judgement.

Each tool solves a different part of production QA. Avellio is strongest where typography, styles and explainable review overlap.

Trust and boundaries

Know what the engine does and what remains yours.

Does Avellio replace InDesign Preflight?

No. Avellio is a typography-focused preflight layer. It adds style, composed typography, locale, semantic and break evidence. InDesign Preflight remains the right tool for links, images, ICC profiles, overset/output conditions and production profiles.

Does Avellio automatically change my document?

Analysis is read-only. Some diagnostic modes add reversible visual markers, and corrective actions intentionally change exact text or local formatting only after the required audit, guards and user confirmation. Work on a saved duplicate and erase diagnostics before delivery.

Does it upload InDesign documents?

No. Document analysis runs locally inside InDesign. Licence activation and periodic entitlement validation are separate network operations and should not transmit the client document.

Is Live Mode the final QA record?

No. Live Mode is responsive editing feedback and may show “Needs audit.” Run the appropriate complete Style Integrity Audit or Typography Audit immediately before fixes, final exports and delivery decisions.

Which InDesign and operating-system versions are supported?

Avellio 1.1.0 uses Adobe InDesign ExtendScript and ScriptUI on desktop Windows and macOS. Use the published, tested support matrix for exact marketed combinations; a generic “CC 2020+” statement alone is not release certification.

What should I run first?

Use a disposable or saved working copy. Start with Conservative Proofing on Current Spread for a low-noise orientation, review the evidence, then run a complete audit before opening Fixes or exporting reports.

Give typography its own final QA pass before the PDF leaves.

Cleaner style systems. Better evidence. Safer corrections. A more defensible handoff for designers, editors, DTP specialists, publishers and prepress teams.
